Well weather has finally settled down enough to take another southern Utah Trip. (May 1 2010) We had so much fun! Here are some pictures of the Road that the Hole in the Rock Expedition made up over Comb wash. This is the last hill that they had to go over 6 months into the trip that was supposed to take 6 weeks. So much for short cuts!! Some of the animals finally gave up and died over this hill. They had to have 6-7 horse teams hitched up per wagon. That means lots of the teams did it over and over.
In one picture Ivan is standing by the road. They cut out one side, and used the fill to fill up the other side.

This is a picture towards the river from the road. The River House Ruins (next post) that we went to are along the river to the left. If you look at the rock in the foreground you can see scrape marks from the road construction.
There's not much of a trail there...I can't even imagine how hard or terrible that had to have been for those pioneers. I don't know if I would have the strength to go through the trials that they experienced. I'm soooo glad to live in the time that I do.
ReplyDeleteHow neat for you guys to be able to be there and see it. I'm sure it was a bit more impressive in person.
Your keeping a journal of your trips aren't you? If not you should. Especially a trip like this one. Love ya!!
